NSQF is a competency-based framework that organises qualifications into levels
of knowledge, skills, and aptitude, defined through clear learning outcomes.
About NSQF
The National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) provides a nationally
integrated, outcome-based structure for vocational education, vocational
training, general education, and technical education. Qualifications are
arranged in levels so that learners can progress horizontally and vertically,
regardless of whether skills were gained through formal, non-formal or informal
routes.
By linking one level of learning to the next, NSQF enables individuals to
acquire recognised competencies, enter the labour market, and return later
to upgrade their skills as their careers grow.
Key elements of NSQF
National principles for recognising skills and competencies at different levels.
Multiple entry and exit between vocational, general, technical education and work.
Defined progression pathways within the skill qualification framework.
Support for lifelong learning and continuous skill upgradation.
Stronger partnerships with industry and employers.
Transparent and credible mechanisms for skill assessment and certification.
Better recognition of prior learning (RPL) for existing workers
Objectives of NSQF
Accommodate the diversity of India’s education and training systems.
Provide clear pathways so people can move easily between education, training and jobs.
Give individuals opportunities to gain credit and recognition for prior learning.
Enhance national and international mobility by improving comparability of
Indian qualifications.
